A teahouse-style room, one of the oldest buildings in Kagurazaka

Because Kagurazaka was totally burned down at the end of World War II, there are a few old buildings in this area. One of them is located in Miyagi Michio Memorial Hall in Nakamachi, near the subway station of Ushigome-Kagurazaka.

Miyagi Michio is a performer of traditional Japanese instrument called "Koto", and also known as a great composer of masterpiece "Spring Sea(Japanese name Haru no Umi)", which is widely played in the New Year season. He lost his eyesight at the age of 8 but did not lose his hope and kept his efforts to be an influential person in Japanese music world.

This is a room for "Kengyoo", built in 1948 just after the war, registered as a national cultural assets. Kengyoo is the the title for the highest rank among blind people. It is a teahouse-style detached room where Mr.Miyagi composed music and wrote books.

This is a picture of the inside of the house. You can see just a part of the instrument "koto" in the right hand. The entrance fee for MIYAGI MICHIO MEMORIAL HALL is 400 Japanese Yen, from Sunday to Tuesday closed.
For details please see below website.(You can listen "Spring Sea" from this website!)
